CAREaz
(Community Awareness Resource Entity of Arizona)

CAREaz—short for Community Awareness Resource Entity of Arizona—was founded in 2018 right here in St. Johns by local resident Donna Hauser. What started as a grassroots response to the urgent need for substance abuse support in Apache County has since grown into a trusted nonprofit helping individuals and families find their way to healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives. From peer-led recovery services and re-entry programs like Live Free Re-entry, to immediate support through the CARE Living Room and After-CARE, the organization is here for both the long haul and the urgent moments. Alongside recovery and crisis support, CAREaz also provides prevention programs such as Narcan distribution, education, and relapse prevention, plus essential community help like food pantry access, emergency shelter, and transportation.

Backed by federal grants and agencies like HRSA, SAMHSA, the CDC, and MATFORCE, CAREaz has become a cornerstone for rural Arizona communities that often don’t have easy access to these kinds of services. Located at 160 E. Commercial Street in St. Johns, the team is available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.—with after-hours help just a phone call away at 928-337-4000. Whether you’re seeking support, looking to partner, or just want to know what’s happening in your community, CAREaz is here to be a welcoming, steady resource.
